This includes all costs related to use of the property and facilities
Individual stall with shavings/bedding included and individual paddock
The services of the grooms for your horse's care needs daily
Hay supplied in the stalls at night and also in paddocks during mealtimes
Horses are stabled nightly. Live-out options are not currently available.
Feed & Supplements
At Owner's Expense

Members are to purchase and supply their own feed for their horse
and ensure adequate meals are available to grooms for feeding on a daily basis. Meals can be prepared well in advance for convenience.
We do have an Equifeeds factory situated 10-15mins drive from us.
Farrier Visits
At Owner's Expense
A designated farrier visits the yard on a monthly basis.
Costs vary depending on what is required for your horse.
This is charged directly to your stabling account.
Members may alternatively make use of their own farrier.
Veterinary & Healthcare
At Owner's Expense
Should a horse become ill or injured, fees are at owner's expense.
We currently have a long-standing relationship with Summerveld Equine Hospital and their vets, but members may make use of their own chosen equine veterinary practice also.
ROUTINE VETERINARY
African Horse Sickness Vaccines
Compulsory
Horses are supplied with African Horse Sickness vaccines ONCE A YEAR
The cost of the vaccine is charged to your own veterinary account.
A representative of the yard can administer it for free or if you require a vet to administer it, their costs will be added to your veterinary account.
Influenza & Tetanus Vaccines
Compulsory

Horses are supplied with flu vaccines EVERY 6 MONTHS
The cost of the vaccine is charged to your own veterinary account.
A representative of the yard can administer it for free or if you require a vet to administer it, their costs will be added to your veterinary account.
Dewormers
Compulsory
Horses are supplied with dewormers EVERY 6 MONTHS
We stick with one broad spectrum option, as advised by vets, for optimum results. The cost of the dewormer is charged to veterinary accounts. A representative of the yard administers them free of charge.
Dental Checkups
Optional but Highly Recommended
An equine dentist is organised EVERY 6MTHS for general checkups.
We can also arrange for a specified veterinarian to do the dental or you may arrange your own dentist. Members are invoiced directly by the dentist or charged by the vet directly to their veterinary account.
YARD ROUTINE
A Horse's Day at the Yard

Horses are taken out to their individual paddocks at 06h00, where they are then fed breakfast at approximately 06h15

After breakfast, horses are let out join the yard herd who have access to the entire property and grazing throughout

A slow and safe introduction to this herd will be done for all new horses where required

Hay is supplied to each horse in the individual paddocks to supplement any lack of grazing while they are in there for their mealtimes

Lunch is fed to horses at approximately 11h30 in the individual paddocks and then the horses are let back out again on the property after lunch for the rest of the afternoon

Between 15h30 and 16h00 horses are brought in to their stalls for the night

Horses are groomed and checked by grooms, and then fed supper by 16h30

A hay bag is supplied to each horse for the night in their stalls

Later in the evenings grooms do a last check in. In Winter they will put on blankets if required at this time and close stable doors

Grooms ensure fresh water is available at all times. They also clean up the individual paddocks, and the property of all manure on a weekly schedule

Stalls are cleaned daily and bedding refreshed and topped up on a weekly schedule
WHAT IS REQUIRED ON ARRIVAL
Equipment Needed

A headcollar / halter with lead rein

A basic grooming kit, including fly spray

A basic first aid box, including thermometer

2 x standard sized hay nets or hay bags

3 x small plastic buckets per day to dish up daily meals in. Or more buckets if you wish to dish up well in advance for the week

Large storage bins/drums to store bulk feed in your private feedroom

4 x Water buckets. Two for the stable and two for the lunch paddock. Please ensure they are the proper tack store heavy duty water buckets. Plastic containers and bins do not last or work well

2 x Feed bins. One for stable and one for lunch paddock. Please ensure these are the heavier duty black tack store type. Plastic containers and buckets do not work well and eventually break.
